1173. δεῖπνον [δάπτω] 1. in Hom. the principal meal of the day, —sometimes the noonday meal, sometimes = ἄριστον, the morning meal, sometimes = δόρπον, the evening meal. In old attic the midday or afternoon meal, dinner or supper:— ἀπὸ δείπνου straightway after the meal, Il.; καλεῖν ἐπὶ δεῖπνον; δ. παραθεῖναι, etc.
