I. to receive one from another, Lat. excipere, δ. λόγον to take up the word, i. e. to speak next, Plat.; so διαδέχεσθαι alone, Hdt.

2. absol. to relieve one another, τοῖς ἵπποις with fresh horses, id=Xen.:—part. perf. pass. διαδεδεγμένος, η, ον, in succession, in turns, Soph.; so, διαδεξάμενος Hdt.
