3080. λύσις λύ^σις, γεν. εως ιονιξ ιος, ἡ, [λύω] I. a loosing, setting free, releasing, ransoming, of a slain man, Il.; λ. θανάτου deliverance from death, Od.; πενίης Theogn., etc.
2. absol. a means of letting loose, Soph.:— deliverance from guilt by expiatory rites, id=Soph.; οὐδ᾽ ἔχει λύσιν [τὰ πήματα] admit not of atonement, id=Soph.
II. a loosing, parting, λ. ψυχῆς ἀπὸ σώματος Plat.:— dissolution, πολιτείας Arist.
