1. to encourage or exhort one to do a thing, c. dat. pers. et inf., τοῖς ἄλλοισιν ἔφη παραμυθήσασθαι οἴκαδ᾽ ἀποπλείειν Il.; c. acc. pers., παραμυθοῦ με (sc. ποιεῖν); ὅ τι καὶ πείσεις Aesch.:—c. acc. pers. only, to encourage, exhort, advise, Plat., Xen.
2. to console, comfort, τινα Hdt., attic
3. to pacify, παρεμυθεῖτο attempted to pacify them, Thuc.
