ANGI'NA, noun [Latin from ango, to choke. See Anger.]A quinsey; an inflammation of the throat; a tumor impeding respiration. It is a general name of the diseases called sorethroat, as quinsy, scarlet fever, croup, mumps, etc.Angina pectoris, an anomalous or spasmodic affection of the chest and organs of respiration; or a disease of the heart.

‖An‐gi″na (ăn‐jī″nȧ or ăn″jĭ‐nȧ), n. [[L., fr. angere to strangle, to choke. See Anger, n.]] (Med.) Any inflammatory affection of the throat or fauces, as the quinsy, malignant sore throat, croup, etc., especially such as tends to produce suffocation, choking, or shortness of breath. Angina pectoris (�), a peculiarly painful disease, so named from a sense of suffocating contraction or tightening of the lower part of the chest; — called also breast pang, spasm of the chest.
