ANGUST'ICLAVE, noun [Latin angustus, narrow, and clavus, a knob or stud.]A robe or tunic embroidered with purple studs or knobs, or by purple stripes, worn by Roman knights. The laticlave, with broader studs, was worn by senators.

An‐gus″ti‐clave (ăn‐gŭs″tĭ‐klāv), n. [[L. angustus narrow + clavus a nail, a stripe.]] (Rom. Antiq.) A narrow stripe of purple worn by the equites on each side of the tunic as a sign of rank.
