HYPANTHIUM

‖Hy‐pan″thi‐um (?), n.; pl. L. Hypanthia (#), E. Hypanthiums (#). [[NL., fr. Gr. υπὁ beneath + ἄνθοσ flower.]] (Bot.) A fruit consisting in large part of a receptacle, enlarged below the calyx, as in the Calycanthus, the rose hip, and the pear.
