Par″a‐clete (?), n. [[L. paracletus, Gr. παράκλητοσ, from παρακαλει̑ν to call to one, to exhort, encourage; παρά beside + καλει̑ν to call.]] An advocate; one called to aid or support; hence, the Consoler, Comforter, or Intercessor; — a term applied to the Holy Spirit. From which intercession especially I conceive he hath the name of the Paraclete given him by Christ. Bp. Pearson.
