PROTOXIDE

Pro‐tox″ide (?), n. [[Proto- + oxide: cf. F. protoxide.]] (Chem.) That one of a series of oxides having the lowest proportion of oxygen. See Proto-, 2 (b). protoxide of nitrogen, laughing gas, now called hyponitrous oxide. See under Laughing.
