SINGLETREE

Sin″gle‐tree′ (?), n. [[Cf. Swingletree.]] The pivoted or swinging bar to which the traces of a harnessed horse are fixed; a whiffletree. ☞ When two horses draw abreast, a singletree is fixed at each end of another crosspiece, called the doubletree.
