Stale (@stāl), n. [[OE. stale, stele, AS. stæl, stel; akin to LG. & D. steel, G. stiel; cf. L. stilus stake, stalk, stem, Gr. στελεόν a handle, and E. stall, stalk, n.]] The stock or handle of anything; as, the stale of a rake.
