Sul″tan (?), n. [[F. sultan (cf. Sp. soldan, It. sultano, soldano), Ar. sultān sultan, dominion. Cf. Soldan.]] A ruler, or sovereign, of a Mohammedan state; specifically, the ruler of the Turks; the Padishah, or Grand Seignior; — officially so called. Sultan flower. (Bot.)
