Elisha

The prophet who received a double portion of Elijah's spirit, who performed more miracles than any other prophet, and whose bones — even in death — raised a man back to life when a body was thrown into his tomb.

The Double-Portion Prophet

Scripture: 1 Kings 19; 2 Kings 2-13

The Biblical Record

Elisha's ministry begins with the greatest request in the Bible: 'Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.' This was not arrogance — it was the request of a firstborn inheritance, the eldest son's double share. Elijah replies that it is a hard thing to ask, but Elisha will have it if he sees the chariot of fire. He sees it. He picks up the fallen mantle. He strikes the water of the Jordan with it and says: Where is the LORD God of Elijah? And the waters part.

Elisha in the Sanctum

Elisha is the figure of inherited ministry — the one who receives what another man built and carries it further. His miracles are earthly and practical: he purifies water, multiplies oil, raises the dead, heals leprosy. The Sanctum uses his ministry as a picture of grace extended through ordinary life.
