Haggai
The prophet who stirred Zerubbabel and Jeshua to rebuild the Temple after the exile, who told the people: consider your ways — you have sown much but harvested little — and promised that the glory of the latter house would be greater than the former.
The Temple Builder
Scripture: Haggai 1-2
The Biblical Record
The people had returned from exile and laid the foundation of the Temple. Then opposition arose and the work stopped. For years, the Temple lay unfinished while the people built their own paneled houses. Haggai came with a pointed question: Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while my house lies in ruins? Consider your ways. The people obeyed. Zerubbabel and Jeshua led the work. And YHWH said: take courage, for I am with you. The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former.
Haggai in the Sanctum
Haggai is the prophet of resumed work — the one who breaks through discouragement and delay with a simple call to consider what has been neglected and return to the task. His message applies to every builder who has stopped: take courage, for I am with you.
