Jezebel

The Phoenician queen who imported Baal worship into Israel, murdered the prophets of YHWH, had Naboth killed for his vineyard, and whose end was prophesied by Elijah and fulfilled by Jehu.

The False Queen

Scripture: 1 Kings 16-21; 2 Kings 9

The Biblical Record

Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians. When Ahab married her, she brought Baal worship into the royal court of Israel with institutional force — supporting 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah at the royal table. She cut off the prophets of YHWH. She organized the judicial murder of Naboth to seize his vineyard. Elijah pronounced her end: in the plot of ground at Jezreel the dogs will devour the flesh of Jezebel, and the body of Jezebel will be like dung on the surface of the field. Jehu fulfilled it.

Jezebel in the Sanctum

Jezebel is the figure of the corrupting influence that enters through a wrong alliance — the one who brings foreign worship into the household of God. The New Testament uses her name as a type for false prophecy in the church (Revelation 2:20). The Sanctum holds her story as a warning without flinching from what she was.
